Strawberry Mania : Strawberry Frozen Yogurt
Strawberry Frozen Yogurt is a very simple, healthy, light yet yummy and exotic dessert…. Guilt free Dessert.
It can also be taken as Yogurt, without freezing, in breakfast.
It is made up of hung curd and sour cream as base.
This recipe was lying in my recipe diary since long. Despite everything nice about it, somehow could never try it.
This year, as my family has developed real love for yogurts, I just couldn’t let it go like this.

Before trying this out, lot many questions popped up in my mind.
As to why frozen yogurt ? Why not Ice cream? How they are different ? Why Sour cream is added ? Can it be made without sour cream ? etc etc.
After lot of thinking, I decided not to just try the recipe but also two more variations of my own. ( you will see this later in my post )
I even renamed it as ‘ Food for Thought.’ (Just joking).
First of all, It is too easy to make. No reducing of milk, no ice crystals. Only mixing up a few ingredients gives you a perfect dessert.
Now since ice cream is milk based whereas frozen yogurt is yogurt based therefore it is much lighter than ice cream and is also a healthier choice. It is a good source of Protein, Calcium and Vitamin B-12.
But then again, there are lot many variations to it like full cream yogurt or low fat ice cream etc.
So, I think without over thinking and not going too much into the details, let us enjoy this yummy dessert, may be without sour cream or may be in small portions.
Now, the three variations I tried.
- With Sour Cream.
- Without Sour Cream.
- Without Freezing.
Sour Cream doesn’t make much of a difference except making the dessert more creamier. It is good in taste without sour cream also. So you can very well skip sour cream if you are very health/calorie conscious.
I have also included the recipe for hung curd and sour cream here.
Preparation time: 10 minutes.
Freezing time: 4 to 5 hours
1/2 Cup Hung Curd*
1/4 Cup Sour Cream**
12-14 Strawberries, roughly chopped
1/3 Cup (or as per taste) Sugar
1 Tbsp Lemon Juice
A Pinch Salt
- Put Strawberries, sugar, lemon juice and salt in the blender and blend it into a fine puree.
- To this, add hung curd and sour cream and blend everything again into a fine paste.
- Put it into a container, cover with a lid/cling film and freeze.
- Take it out of freezer 10-15 minutes prior to serving.
- Serve with loads of love.
- Salt is added so as not to let it harden too much.
- Lemon juice prevents crystallisation.
- If you don’t want to add sour cream, just increase the quantity of hung curd by 1/4 cup.
- If you want to enjoy it as yogurt only, then keep it in the refrigerator only after step 2.
You can make this with other fruits as well like kiwi, mango, peach etc.
In a Jiffy
Blend strawberry puree, sugar, salt and lemon juice, hung curd and sour cream and freeze.
*How to make Hung Curd
1.Put normal curd in strainer or muslin cloth.
2.Keep it on a container, so that all the water drips out.
3.Leave it in the refrigerator for 6-7 hours or overnight.
4. The hung curd is ready.
**How to make Sour Cream
1/4 Cup Heavy Cream
1 Tsp Lemon juice
1.Add lemon juice to heavy cream and whisk properly for 2-3 minutes till cream gets thick.
2.Cover and let it stand at room temperature for 24 hours.( overnight in summers).
3.Chill before use.
You can have this healthy n delicious frozen yogurt during fasts also, be it Navratri or any other fasts.
For consuming it in fasts, just replace salt with rock salt (saindha namak).
