  • 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 2 or 3 Whole Red Chillies

  • 2 Tbsp Roasted And Crushed Peanuts
  • 1 Tbsp Lemon Juice Or As Per Taste

Instructions

To Boil Millet

  1. Rinse  Kodo millet in water by changing water several times till you get clear water. You get lot of brown coloured water while rubbing this millet in water.
  2. Soak it in enough water for a minimum of 2 hours. More the better. You can soak it overnight too.
  3. Once again rinse it in clean water.
  4. Add water and pressure cook it for 2 whistles.
  5. Let the steam settle down on its own.
  6. Open the pressure cooker and your fluffy boiled Kodo millet is ready. Follow the same method for any other millet too.
  7. Use it immediately or keep it in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  8. Remains good for 3 to 4 days.

Make Upma

  1. In a wok, heat oil and splutter mustard seeds, whole red chilli, chana dal, urad dal and curry leaves.
  2. Saute for a while and then add green chillies, tomatoes and onions. You may add other veggies like carrots or peas. Use boiled peas if planning to use. I simply added onions and tomatoes. And that too, I chopped in the food processor so it was done very quickly.
  3. Saute the veggies too for a minute and add boiled millet.
  4. Mix in salt and lemon juice as per taste and toss everything.
  5. Sprinkle some crushed peanuts. You can add corn flakes or some kind of mixture also like Navratan mixture or Bhujia.
  6. Millet Upma is ready. Garnish with lots of chopped coriander leaves.

  7. Serve with love, Lemon Lassi optional.

Recipe Notes

  • Add lemon juice at the time of serving only.
